Younger Readers Webquest: Each year the Childrens'
Book Council of Australia choose a number of books that they think are the
best ones published for children and young people in the previous year.
These books are Short-Listed. There are a number of categories such as
Picture Books, books for very young children,( Early Childhood), Younger
Readers' books and books for older students, as well as non-fiction books.
Just before Childrens' Book Week (August 19th to 25th this year) the Judges
choose the winners from each category and make their announcements. These
books become the Books of the Year.
The books that have
been short-listed for Younger Readers are the ones in the Younger Readers
Webquest.
The Webquest
contains a series of short challenges that students tackle independently.
Teachers need to follow the following simple steps
(1) You should form
small groups of about 3-6 people and agree to read one of the books on the
Younger Readers' Short-list.
(2) Once you have
decided on which book to read and have decided on a Team name you should
then....
(3) Register your
Team to be part of the email Mailing List with other students around Australia
who are also reading the books.
(4) You should
attempt the Challenges for the book you chose and discuss your ideas, then...
(5) Mail your
responses to the Younger Readers Mailing List with the name of the book as the
Subject of the email.

League - this is the Gould League site and it is an excellent site. It has some easy
activities for Primary school level on making food webs and being a science
detective. Well worth a visit!

this topic is an Animal Game. The children have to choose an animal type

they can discover the identity of the mystery animal. Once they get it right
they are given very readable information on that animal. Good for building
classification and appropriate questioning skills.
